National Geographic Bee 2009

Liberty Intermediate School held the National Geographic Bee Final Competition on January 15, 2009 in the school information center. Preliminary rounds in each classroom, held before the Winter Break, narrowed the class winners to the ten. All class winners and runners-up attended the competition. Parents of the finalists were invited, as well.

A Final Competition was held to eliminate eight finalists, leaving two for the Championship Round. After a tense Championship Round a school winner was declared. The winning answer was to this question asked of both students: Mexico City is located on the site of Tenochtitlan, the island capital of what empire that was conquered by Spanish explorers in the 16 th century? The correct answer was Aztec .

The winner advanced to the next level of the competition, a written examination, to compete with winners from other DoDDS schools. Congratulations to all the competitors.
