CelebratingEarth DayApril 2008The first Earth Day was held in 1970, which rallied over 20 million Americans from around the US and on college campuses to get involved in environmental issues concerning our planet. Now "Earth Day" is celebrated globally (22 April) and weeks of activities are planned around this special date! Our Lakenheath/Mildenhall Military Commands will take this opportunity to raise environmental awareness while promoting environmentally friendly practices throughout our communities during 19-26 April. Please check your local listings for all Up and Coming Earth Week Community Events. This year's Earth Week Theme - Small Changes, Big Differences. Liberty School enjoyed 3 Contests/Competitions - Poster, Design a Grocery Bag, and Poetry Contests, which were sponsored by our Military Commands. Congratulations to all students whom participated in our Earth Week Contests. British local, in honor of Earth Week, treated Liberty teachers and students to a wonderful and inspiring presentation on Thursday, 17 April. The Public Affairs Officer of the Learning and Outreach Program at the Lakenheath Fen Nature Reserve. Her Power Point presentation integrated issues of our Lakenheath Fens, birds, plants, how children can help, etc. All students received valuable information in the form of booklets/pamphlets on our Nature Reserve and the entrance fee is free. Please ask your child about the presentation and how ALL can help Lakenheath's environment and wildlife. |
